With the Sylva Bay Mathletes knocking off Bay Springs in a close match (58-51) in week three action of the JCJC Bobcat Math League, only five undefeated teams remain in the 20 participating high schools. The remaining winning teams are: PCS, Richton, Seminary, Stringer and Sylva Bay. Sylva Bay Academy math coach Amy Blackwell said she is really proud of her team for putting forth an extra effort.
“They are always competitive because we are never sure what to expect so we take what we know and make it work for us. All six students really felt the pressure to win because they knew both teams were undefeated. I am proud of them because they knew I held the bar high and they exceeded my expectations,” said Blackwell.
“I was just as nervous as they were!”
Sylva Bay faces Quitman next week who handily beat Heidelberg High School in competition 61-42. Taylorsville crushed Smith County rival Mize 63-48 and in the Perry County rivalry between Richton and Perry Central, Richton hammered Perry Central 70-50. South Jones outscored Laurel 73-56 and Stringer narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of the Raleigh Lions 77-71. PCS continued its winning ways by beating Wayne County 76-70 and West Jones out-calculated Northeast Jones 73-67. Seminary slammed Covington County foe, Collins 62-42. Lawrence County routed Mt. Olive 79-47.
