Waterfowl breeding populations increase in 2012

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Canadian Wildlife Service recently completed their annual waterfowl population surveys on the breeding grounds to monitor waterfowl populations and to help set hunting season frameworks. Overall, North American breeding waterfowl populations increased 7 percent from 2011 to just over 48 million birds.

Hearn-Ferguson, a 5-5 guard, averaged 15 points per game in leading West Jones in scoring during the 2011-12 season.

JC’s Robinson named MAC Junior College Softball Coach of the Year

JC’s Robinson named MAC Junior College Softball Coach of the Year

Jones County Junior College softball coach Chris Robinson has received another postseason honor.

Robinson was named the 2012 Mississippi Association of Coaches Junior College Softball Coach of the Year during the MAC’s Hall of Fame banquet here Friday night at the Hilton Hotel.

He had earlier been named the MACJC Coach of the Year.

Robinson guided the Lady Bobcats to their most successful fast-pitch season in school history this past year.

Forrest General Hospital’s Spirit of Women and the University of Southern Mississippi have hosted their annual “Football 101: Chalk Talk for Women” event for three years, and this year’s event promises even more fun! Kick the season off right at the fourth-annual “Football 101” on July 19 at 6 p.m. at Touchdown Terrace at The Rock on the campus of Southern Miss.

Jones County 7 year old Allstar Nationals won 1st place in tournament in Taylorsville. The tournament started June 15 and ended June 18.
