Dr. Kerry Bernardo Joins Wesley Neurosurgical Services

Wesley Medical Center welcomes Kerry Bernardo, M.D., a neurosurgeon, as he joins the medical staff at Wesley Neurosurgical Services. 

Dr. Bernardo received his medical degree from the University of California in Los Angeles. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, MO, where he was also Chief Resident.

New mandate keeping mental ill out of jail

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Thanks to a new state mandate Jones County Supervisors are trying to figure out what to do with the mental ill when they are arrested.

Board president Andy Dial said this is another unfunded mandate issued down from the federal and state government.

Dial says the state Department of Mental Health has issued another unfunded mandates that require jails to become certified to hold the mentally ill.

Dial said with the recent budget cuts the money just isn't there for the county to take on this responsibility.

"Buster Says" visits South Jones

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Buster the Talking School Bus spoke with South Jones Elementary School students Tuesday.

He presented his "Buster Says," school bus safety program. "Buster Says" Creator, Bryan Nash, said, "being a retired transportation director, one thing I found out was that we trained everyone in Alabama but the kids so I just thought...this would be a great way to train our kids. They remember Buster and remember the humor that goes along with..they're going to remember most of those rules."

Jones County Deputy Sheriff wins award

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A press conference took place Thursday at the Jones County Sheriff's Department to award Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant, Scott Paxson, with a special certificate from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

When people from across the state gather at the University of Southern Mississippi Pride Field on Sunday for Mississippi’s Walk for Diabetes, the family of 10-year-old Erin Mooney of Laurel will be among the participants.

Mooney, age 10, is listed among millions of  Americans suffering from diabetes.
