WDAM to air Red Cross telethon for tornado relief

Pine Belt, MS (WDAM)- WDAM-TV and the Red Cross have partnered to host a telethon benefiting the Mississippi counties affected by the devastating February 10 tornado. 

The Build This City: Red Cross Tornado Relief Telethon will begin Tuesday, February 26 at 5 a.m. during News 7 Sunrise on both WDAM ABC and WDAM NBC. 

WDAM-TV will air donation updates at the top of each hour. The telethon will continue through all regular newscasts until 7 p.m. with special guest performances and interviews in every show.

Tornado debris causes baptism certificate to end up in Jones County

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- While hundreds of homes were destroyed by Sunday's
tornado, and many residents found debris items in their yards, in the small
community of Ovett, Rita West discovered what might be described as a family
heirloom.

"I was getting my run in for the afternoon,
finished up my run and I was picking up some debris that was in my yard," said
Rita. "I found a piece of paper, I walked over and I picked it up and turned it
over and it was a baptism certificate."

Jones County Junior College has rescheduled its annual Black History Celebration for Feb. 21, at 10:15 a.m. in the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium.  The program’s theme, “It’s Your Time to Make a Difference” will feature a guest speaker and special musical guests, the Laurel High School Gospel Choir. The public is invited to this free event.
