Jones County authorities arrest three drug suspects; investigation continues

JONES COUNTY (WDAM)- Authorities made three arrests on Wednesday in connection with a case of illegal trafficking of methamphetamines and marijuana.

Authorities charged Glynn Biglane and Jason Lott with possessing marijuana with intent to distribute. Authorities also arrested Austin Lowe of Birmingham, Alabama, and charged him with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. 

Authorities said more arrests are expected in this case.

The sheriff's department asks if you know anything about any illegal drug activity in the county, please call 601-425-3147.

"Faces of Hope" takes a look at Jones County Relay for Life Honorary Chair

Three year-old Addison Stringer will be the Honorary Chair for the 2013 Jones County Relay for Life.

When Addison was five months old, she was diagnosed with langerhans cell histiocytosis; a rare disease that is caused from abnormal cells deriving from bone marrow that migrate from the skin to the lymph nodes.  

Red Cross recognizes volunteers

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Tuesday, The American Red Cross East Central Mississippi Chapter held its annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon at the Lauren Rogers Museum in Jones County.

Red Cross officials say 96 percent of the driving force behind the Red Cross is driven by volunteers.

During the event, volunteers were presented pins and a certificate, for their dedication and service. The East Central Chapter serves 15 counties.

Laurel Police Department revisits its security measures

LAUREL, MS (WDAM)- Laurel Police Department has beefed up its security measure since a Jackson police officer was fatally shoot a couple of weeks ago.

Laurel police have added nearly a dozen cameras to its main office.

Police officials said they have also revisited their policy and processor when it comes to integrating a suspect.

Captain Tommy Cox said officers with Laurel Police Department are urged to watch out for each other as if their very own life was on the line.

Police searching for ice machine thief in Laurel

LAUREL, MS (WDAM)- An ice machine has been robbed in Laurel and in several other cities in the state but police have very few leads.

Laurel Investigator Kim Stewart said someone robbed an ice machine located on Highway 15 North and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Stewart says this the fourth machine robbed in the last few days.

Jones County man dies in head-on collision

A young Jones County man was killed in a head-on collision near the Jeff Byrd Road intersection of Highway 84 East in Jones County on Wednesday night.

At 9:37 p.m., medical first responders and rescue units from M&M, Powers and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the accident where the male driver of a Ford F-150 had been traveling in the wrong direction of the eastbound lane of Highway 84 East. The driver collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla driven by 20-year old John Michael Aricer.

Laurel Bone and Joint sold to hospital

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- One of the state's longest-running orthopedic clinics has been sold.

Laurel Bone and Joint Clinic is now owned by South Central Regional Medical Center.

President and Executive Director Doug Higginbotham says the hospital took over the clinic February 1 and is now interested in acquiring land near the clinic.

The land will cost close to $1 million.

The Jones County Supervisor gave Higginbotham the approval to move forward with the purchase during Monday morning's supervisor's meeting.
