GE Aviation speaks to HS Counselors during JCJC’s workshop | Events
The following is a press release from Jones County Junior College:
Pine Belt area high school counselors recently received a first-hand report on the progress of the new GE Aviation manufacturing facility in Ellisville at JCJC’s Counselor’s Workshop. GE Plant Leader Nate Beach, Human Resources Leader Rebecca Bechtold and intern Claudia Lara gave counselors an overview of the new plant's mission, which includes partnering with educators. They also shared how the hiring selection process was working and how the company takes a unique approach to training its employees by forming teams, instead of the hierarchy methods used in most manufacturing facilities. GE's production assistants are team focused in an effort to encourage accountability and to allow employees to be engaged so they can be part of the solution in meeting company and team goals, according to Bechtold.
“We want our employees to know they are making a difference and what they do impacts the team,” said Bechtold.
Beach explained the company's four areas of focus in the community are Education, Health, Environment and Disaster Relief.
He said, “Without the partnership with JCJC and USM to help us with on-site training and research before locating in Ellisville, and now as we begin the hiring process, we would be behind. However we are on track to open in late March.”
Counselors gather every year at JCJC to learn about new programs and resources in the area available for their students and for those wanting to attend JCJC.
