South Jones High School’s showchoir, Company, came away from the Mississippi Showchoir Contest as Grand Champion.

The group also took home the awards for best visual performance and best vocal performance during the contest hosted Feb. 1 and 2 at William Carey University by the choral department of Pearl River Community College.

Jones County Junior College will be hosting its annual Black History Celebration on Feb. 12, at 10:15 a.m. in the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium.  The program’s theme, “It’s Your Time to Make a Difference” will feature a guest speaker and special musical guests, the Laurel High School Gospel Choir. The public is invited to this free event.

The Pine Belt’s Just Over the Rainbow Theatre calls this past weekend “a good one” for the local theatre group.   JORT member Tom Hardy was elected to lead the Mississippi Theatre Association for the next two years.  Chris Wooten, also of JORT, was elected treasurer for the statewide theatre conference.
