Laurel man headed to prison for possession of child pornography

A Laurel resident is going to prison for possession of child pornography, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today. 

Wayne McLain, age 54, of 624 East 20th Street, Laurel, pleaded guilty to possession of child porn before Judge Billy Joe Landrum in Jones County Circuit Court Monday.

Sons of Confederate Veterans Salute Major Amos McLemore, CSA Jones County

April is Confederate Heritage month in Mississippi and the Honor Guard of the Jones County Rosin Heels, Camp #227 Sons of Confederate Veterans, fired a volley in Honor of Major Amos McLemore, CSA, who was killed at the Deason House in Ellisville in 1863 by a deserter from the Confederate Army.

This is only one of the many Honors which will be paid to Confederate Veterans throughout Jones and the surrounding counties during the month.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which that date falls as National Police Week. May 15, led by Chief Tyrone Stewart, the Laurel Police Department held a Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony in the front parking lot of the department’s headquarters where a memorial wreath was placed at the base of the flag pole in memory of fallen officers across the country and Jones County.

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- On Friday, more than a two dozen Jones County citizens gathered in the Jones County Circuit Court for the annual Peace Officer's Memorial Day Ceremony.

Supreme Court Justice Mike Randolph was today's guest speaker. Randolph called law enforcement across the country his heroes. Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge says this is a day filled with emotions and a day that will always be remembered.
